A local worker at PNG's $US16-billion liquidied natural gass project has died after being run over by a front end loader.

He is the fourth man to have died in connection with the ExxonMobil-led project, and the second to have died at Komo Airfield in the Southern Highlands.

The project's operator, Esso Highlands, said the man was working for a local company that had been supplying raw materials for an upgrade of the airport.
